What is Underfloor Heating?
Underfloor heating involves the installation of pipework in the floor, so that the whole floor acts like a radiator, warming the room from the ground up.
Underfloor heating works by pumping a controlled flow of warm water, from any heat source, through plastic tubing embedded in the floor. The temperature in each room can also be controlled independently.
Warm water underfloor heating is now an accepted and increasingly popular means of providing central heating within all types of houses and is up to 25% more efficient compared to radiators alone.
Underfloor heating is simple to install as part of a new build project and it can also be installed as part of a renovation project to existing floors.
Underfloor heating works really well with renewable technology like heat pumps and can help to prevent cold spots and draughts in your home. It also eliminates the need for radiators which frees up wall space and is ideal for open plan living and rooms such as kitchens or bathrooms where space is at a premium.
While it is best installed at the time of building, underfloor heating can be retrofitted into an existing property, but you will need to opt for a low profile option.
